About Us

My name is Destri. I was born and raised in Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia. I came to the United States in July 1999 to pursue a degree in graphic design at Iowa State University and graduated in July 2003. I'm currently the wife to a wonderful husband, mother of a beautiful daughter, and work as web/graphic designer. My husband is American, and he's my inspiration for developing this website.

A year ago (2006), I began video blogging on YouTube. One thing led to another, and I was thinking about how I could help those who want to learn Bahasa Indonesian. I decided to create an Indonesian Language 101 video series just for fun. I made seven videos and posted them on YouTube for free. One year later, 726 people subscribe to my channel, leading me to believe that most of them are interested in my Indonesian Language 101 videos.

Tired of those ignorant people who left inappropriate comments on my videos, I stopped making videos because they took my effort for granted. Having just had my baby in July 2007, I wanted to spend quality time with my baby girl because my family is a big priority. I started thinking about how I could make some extra income without going back to work full time, and finally decided to make this website. I hope to eventually expand this website once more people subscribe to it.
